With its through-package capability already proven on opaque containers, the device can also identify the packaging itself by simply scanning the empty bag, bottle, or film. It distinguishes between polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer, all of which have distinct Raman fingerprints. This is crucial for preventing mix-ups – for example, using a PP bottle when the formulation requires a low-density PE bottle.

The RS1500DI’s 1064 nm wavelength penetrates colored and pigmented plastics better than shorter wavelengths, further expanding its utility. Quality assurance teams can now verify that the correct primary packaging material is used for each product batch without destructive testing or time-consuming FTIR sample preparation. Moreover, the device can identify packaging directly in the warehouse before materials are distributed to filling lines, preventing costly line stoppages.
